Habit:  tree

Description:  TreeLeaf-rachis (inclusive of petiole) 10-16 cm, not conspicuously zigzag; leaflets 3-7, on the highest leaves sometimes only 1, ranging from broadly obovate to elliptic-oblong, on the obtuse, rounded or emarginate top with or without a small triangular cusp, herbaceous or thinly coriaceous, 4-12 cm by 2.5-9 cm. Single flowers all or for the greater part very manifestly pedicelled; keel-petals auricled at the base of their upper margin; stamens 9; style 1.75-2.5 mm. Flowers panicled; bracteoles falling off long before anthesis; pod straight, oblong-strap-shaped. Calyx-tube and ovary glabrous; panicles terminal, often moreover in the highest leaf-axils thinly appressed pubescent or subglabrous, 5-15 cm; bracteoles 177; 3 mm, thinly membranous; calyx-tube 177; 4 mm; corolla white or pale pink; claws of petals 2-3 mm; limb of standard 4-5 mm; stalk of ovary glabrous; ovules 3-6; pod within calyx on a stalk of 0.75-1 cm length, 4-9 cm by 1.5-2 cm; seeds 1-3, rarely 4, 0.75-1 cm long  (Backer & Bakhuizen van de Brink, 1963; pp. 613-615).

Habitat/ecology:  "Leaf-shedding forest in periodically very dry localities; sometimes cultivated" (Backer & Bakhuizen van de Brink, 1963; pp. 613-615).
